It is time for some new innovations to the table tennis world! The ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) has come up with the idea of table tennis museum in Shanghai. It will be possible for all the table tennis fans to interact with their favourite players, learn to improve their techniques, practice with other players and more.
ITTF already has table tennis museum of their own in Switzerland, but they want to move it to China which is the “nation of world champions”. They want to recreate the museum with more improvised technologies like virtual reality and motion capture. It is also going to be a new home for the China Table Tennis Museum. The ITTF museum and the CTTM museum are going to be joint venture in recreating this museum at Shanghai.
WHAT CAN THE VISITORS EXPERIENCE AT TABLE TENNIS MUSEUM?
The museum has decided to have into two sectors: table tennis culture exhibition areas and an interactive area. The World table tennis culture exhibition area will have all the 3000 treasures collected by ITTF museum right from the birth of table tennis, rules, equipments, players etc. It is going to display how the game originated from a bunch of people in England.
The interactive area will be more spectacular through virtual reality and motion capture. Motion capture is for reconstruction of the scene to give a more realistic look for the viewers. The fans can experience the game by digital visual effects created by augmented reality). Through virtual reality visitors can try to play with the table tennis robot and visualize the world champions playing against each other.
By next year, visitors can get the complete picture of Ping Pong history, old fashioned rackets and clothes. They can also experiment with the new invention of table tennis (TTX) launched by ITTF at the Rio Olympics 2016. They are investing more than 3000 million yuan for this museum. The idea is to make it look modern by reconstructing from the old remains.
